Quick Homemade Gochujang

Use gochujang to enhance your dishes with a little smokiness, heat, and umami. Famous Korean dishes such as bibimbap, tteokbokki, ssamjang, and soondubu jigae, all use gochujang as one of their main ingredients.

What is Gochujang?

Gochujang 고추장 is a Korean red pepper paste made from fermented soybean, chili powder, glutinous rice, malt powder, and salt. It’s been a staple in Korean cooking for centuries and comes in different heat levels, from mild to extremely hot.

Gochugaru Water Honey Red Miso Paste Sake

Directions:

Put gochugaru honey, water, and miso paste in a pot. Stir until mixture bubbles, then turn off heat and let cool. Stir in remaining ingredients and transfer to an airtight container.
