Morning Wellness Tonic

I think I’ve found my favorite breakfast drink. I’ve been chugging this morning wellness tonic for the past few days and can’t get enough of the taste. It’s addictive beyond any other drinks I’ve had and luckily, it’s the healthiest too!

This tonic is spicy, a little sweet and totally tart. I’m going to go as far as calling this an energy drink since it adds a spring in my step and opens up my airways. I’ve been feeling a little under the weather these past few weeks and this drink makes me feel good overall.

My first attempt was to make it in a blender which came out disastrous! Do not put this in a blender unless you want to spend the next 10 minutes wiping the counters and wall of your kitchen. This drink doesn’t need a blender since it requires zero blade action. It’s much easier to put all the ingredients in a bowl or pitcher and slowly stir until the honey dissolves.

However, you will need a strainer to get rid of the lemon pulp and ginger bits. What’s great about this morning wellness tonic is you can make a big pitcher ahead of time and have enough to drink for the whole week. I love it for breakfast but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make an appearance as an after dinner beverage too.

I told you – I’m obsessed with this drink!

The addition of freshly ground black pepper is not only good for your health – one ounce of black pepper provides 57% of the vitamin K, 45% of the iron, and 30% of the fiber – it also helps in the absorption of turmeric.

Whenever turmeric is taken with black pepper, its bioavailability shoots up 2000%! This means it enters your body’s circulation at a higher rate and therefore, has a much more potent effect on your overall health.

And to make you feel even better about this “superdrink”, the juice of a whole lemon is used (vitamin C) as well as a cup of coconut water (high in electrolytes), ginger (high in anti-inflammatory properties) and raw honey (high in flavonoids and antioxidants which help protect against cancer and heart disease).

It’s enough to make you jump in the air and scream “yeah baby, I feel great!”

I find it to be a great substitute to “heavier” drinks like smoothies, especially if you are doing some sort of a cleanse or are looking to brighten up your skin complexion. It’s the best beauty drink you’ll ever taste!

Questions and Reviews

  1. This is great in the morning. I guess that’s why it’s called Morning Wellness Tonic. It only takes a few minutes and tastes great!

  2. This drink sounds promising and I would like to try it. However, I have a question. In your blog you say that you can make a big pitcher ahead of time and have enough to drink for the whole week. In the Notes section of the recipe it says that it will keep refrigerated for up to 2 days. Could you please clarify the timeline. Thank you.

    1. Hi Linda, thank you for letting me know about the mistake! The tonic does last for up to a week (5-7 days) and not 2 days 🙂

  3. I am allergic to tumeric, is there anything I can replace with it so that it can still be a beneficial wellness drink?

    1. Hi Jess! You could try with cumin powder or matcha powder. If you are using matcha, make sure to whisk it with a little of the tonic first so it dissolves properly (otherwise it may get clumpy). 🙂

  4. Might I suggest that as ‘tradition’ dictates that you do Not peel the ginger as there is where tje flavor is strongest as well as many vitamins. Just scrub. And boil the ginger and tumeric for 10 minutes. Let cool down and then add other ingredients as boiling ginger and tumeric brings out the ‘better’ value in then instead of raw! From Suriname South America
