Drink it for breakfast, as a mid afternoon snack or serve it for dessert! This 5-ingredients only Mango Lassi recipe is sweet, nutritious and beyond refreshing on a hot summer day! This post has been sponsored Dannon®. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What could be more summery than a mango lassi for breakfast – it has fresh mango, looks like a frozen treat and yields from India. The main differences between a lassi and a smoothie is that a lassi is yogurt based and contain spices. Some lassis can be savory and salty but the one I’m serving today is simple, fruity and kid friendly. I’m using cardamom powder, Dannon® Oikos® Triple Zero Yogurt Vanilla (that I purchased at Walmart in the dairy aisle), fresh mango and a few saffron strands. You won’t believe how delicious it is!
The whole idea behind creating simple dishes is to make healthy eating accessible and easy for everyone. Whether we are on a tight budget or have little time to cook, I think we all would like to be able to eat healthier more often, don’t you agree? Making something like this mango lassi takes less than 5 minutes in the kitchen and is a great way to start the day on the right foot. I chose Dannon® Oikos® Triple Zero Yogurt Vanilla for my lassi recipe because it contains no fat, no added sugar and no artificial sweeteners. I also like the fact that even though the yogurt is fat-free, it’s still very creamy in texture. The lassi drink came out as fluffy as a cloud and the color of a golden sunset. The addition of cardamom powder makes it a little aromatic while the saffron threads add a subtle smokiness. It’s such a pretty beverage that drinks almost like a dessert!
What’s also great about lassis is that they are just as versatile as smoothies. You can swap one fruit for another, add your favorite spice or spices, a squeeze of lemon juice, etc.. The options are literally endless! You could create a different lassi every month by walking the aisles of Walmart and picking the ripest, most gorgeous fruit and then make your way to the spice section to try a new flavor combination! I can see strawberries pairing well with peppercorns, peaches with rosemary… What about banana and curry powder? That could be an interesting combination but I think I’ll leave that one up to you guys 😉
Creating nutritious dishes can be a lot of fun and the more you do it, the easier it will become to create your own recipes. Making small changes here and there can help you transition smoothly into a healthier lifestyle. By just swapping sugary yogurt for something like Dannon Oikos Triple Zero, you are doing your body a favor. If you think you will miss the sweetness, I can promise that you won’t! A mango lassi like this one beats any sugary treat you may want because it’s cold, incredibly refreshing, smooth and super fruity. It hits all your senses at once! And if you don’t feel like having it for breakfast, serve it as a dessert. I drink mine as a mid afternoon snack to curb my chocolate cravings and it works like a charm!
