ingredients for smoothie

Ingredients for Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

  • Fresh bananas: And make sure they are very ripe for extra sweetness!
  • Ice cubes: A few ice cubes to make the smoothie as cold as a milkshake.
  • Peanut butter: I’m using natural smooth peanut butter, but feel free to use whatever type of peanut butter you like.
  • Flaxseed: Ground flaxseeds add a slight nutty taste and aid in improving digestion.
  • Almond milk: I like to use unsweetened almond milk but go ahead and use milk or other type of non-dairy milk options.
  • Pure vanilla extract: Pure vanilla extract contain real vanilla bean and, therefore, has a stronger floral and vanilla taste.
  • Maple syrup or honey: If you are using maple syrup, make sure it’s 100% pure so you get the floral notes and the sweetness. As for honey, raw organic honey is my go-to.

Flaxseed benefits

I like adding about half a tablespoon of ground flaxseed to this delicious smoothie recipe not only for the taste, but for the benefits as well.

For example, did you know flaxseed if good for gut health and can help strengthen your immune system? It also provides a small portion of omega-3 fatty acids. Peanut Butter Benefits

As with any foods that taste delicious and are chock full of benefits, it should be noted that in order to reap those benefits, peanut butter should be eaten in moderation.

Peanut butter is a great source of protein and is high in magnesium, zinc, and vitamin B-6. Some find it particularly helpful when it comes to weight loss on particular plans as peanut butter is filling and can curb hunger. Others will find it’s great in helping them gain weight when trying to build more muscle as well.

What is Natural Peanut Butter?

Wondering what the best peanut butter is to use when making this peanut butter banana smoothie? I’d suggest going natural. Regardless of the branding, what you’re looking for when buying natural peanut butter is an ingredients list that is as long as the words peanuts and salt.

Yes, commercially produced peanut butter is delicious and I’ll pick it up from the grocery store from time to time as a treat. But it’s often loaded with sweeteners, hydrogenated oils, and all kinds of wonky sounding stabilizers. So, I’ll usually roll my sleeves up and do my best to mix up a jar of the natural stuff without spilling the oil that separates from the peanut butter everywhere.

The Classic Peanut Butter and Banana Flavor Combination

Is there any food combination more evocative of youth than peanut butter and banana?

My mom used to make peanut butter, banana and honey sandwiches when I was a little girl – and that indulgent compound STILL sends my taste buds into the ether. Therefore, it stands to reason that mixing those elements into a morning smoothie was a culinary inevitability.

And don’t be afraid to experiment by adding other classic ingredients such a dash of cinnamon powder, a little nutmeg, a cold shot of coffee, a cold shot of earl grey tea, or some chocolate syrup. The options are endless!
