Grape, Apple and Turmeric Salad

Greetings from Japan!

I am writing you from my mother’s kitchen in the south of Japan surrounded by rice patty fields and food so delicious, it’s hard to think of anything else!

I’ve been coming to Japan since the age of four – it’s my second home, where my mother and brother live, and where I started modeling.

It’s also where I fell deeply, madly in love with food. Good food is at the center of Japanese living and knowing where to find the best bakery, tempura, ice cream or soba noodle shop, is something people take quite seriously. The first thing everyone always asks me is “what would you like to eat?” whenever we plan to meet.

Whether it’s curry, sushi, French or Italian, my mother and her friends always know where to go!

80% of our time is spent eating out but on the days we do decide to stay in, I will usually take control of the kitchen and cook easy and healthy dishes.

Now because it’s allergy season and we both suffer from it, I made a simple grape, apple and turmeric salad for lunch yesterday. Eating anti-inflammatory foods does help fight allergies and make breathing a little easier.

Although yogurt does contain dairy, the probiotics help balance the bacteria in your digestive system and may prevent the immune system from overreacting to pollen and other allergens.

This grape, apple and turmeric salad is sweet, acidic and a little salty. I love it because it takes less than 10 minutes to make and can be eaten as a snack or as a side dish. It’s a great and delicious way to combat seasonal allergies, especially if you have them as badly as I do.
