Green Tea Apple Smoothie
Refreshed is how you will feel after taking a few sips of this simple green tea apple smoothie! It’s creamy but light, sweet but also tart, and a little spicy thanks to the half tablespoon of freshly grated ginger.
Most ingredients in this recipe also contain powerful anti aging properties. Green tea, tofu, apple, lemon and ground flaxseed are high in antioxidants and vitamin C which are needed to maintain healthy skin. Making yourself a morning smoothie like this one is a great way for your body to absorb lots of essential nutrients – especially if you are planning on eating out all day.
Who keeps track of whether they have reached their daily intake of vitamins and nutrients at the office!
This green tea apple smoothie also makes a delicious pick me up drink if you need a boost of energy in the middle of the afternoon.
Okay, so there’s only about half the amount of caffeine in green tea than there is in coffee (once brewed – the leaves themselves are actually stronger), but the smoothie comes with an apple and half a banana which are high in water and fiber.
A healthy digestive system and keeping hydrated are both very important in order to sustain energy. I should know, I’m a coffee lover and this green tea apple smoothie works much better at clearing my head than a cup of Joe.
You can either use tea bags or loose leaves for this green tea apple smoothie recipe. I always prefer using loose leaves because of the wide variety available.
There are so many different types of green tea that it’s worth trying as many as possible until you find one that steals your heart. Believe when I say there are some spectacularly delicious, sweet and not so bitter green teas.
Every time I’m in Japan I get giddy for green tea – I buy several bags from different parts of the country and take them back with me. Sorry tea bags but loose leaf tea simply tastes better!
I also have a water heater which makes brewing tea so easy – no need for a kettle, my water is always ready to pour at the perfect temperature.
You can make this green tea apple smoothie ahead of time but I recommend drinking it fresh when its texture is at its best.
