Easy Coleslaw Dressings

Four easy and delicious homemade coleslaw dressings for all occasions and way better than store-bought mixes!

Ingredients

Basic Coleslaw Salad

  • 3 cups shredded green cabbage
  • 1 1/2 cup shredded red cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded carrots

Classic Creamy Coleslaw Dressing

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (or vegan mayonnaise)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole grain mustard
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

For buttermilk or sour cream based dressings: swap half of the mayonnaise for buttermilk or sour cream

Skinny Creamy Coleslaw Dressing

  • 1/3 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole grain mustard
  • 1 teaspoon honey (add more for a sweeter taste)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 freshly ground black pepper

Vinegar Based Coleslaw Dressing

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2  tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Japanese Style Coleslaw Dressing

  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 stalks scallion (finely chopped)

Instructions

Directions for Creamy Coleslaw and Skinny Creamy Coleslaw Dressing

  1. Put all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk until smooth.
  2. Pour dressing over the coleslaw and toss well.
  3. Refrigerate 1-2 hours before serving.

Directions for Vinegar Based and Japanese Coleslaw Dressing

  1. Put all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk until the oil has emulsified.
  2. Pour dressing over the coleslaw and toss well.
  3. Refrigerate 1-2 hours before serving.

Notes

The classic creamy coleslaw dressing will keep refrigerated for up to 3-4 weeks.

The healthier creamy coleslaw dressing will keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

Both vinegar based and Japanese coleslaw dressings will keep refrigerated for up to 3-4 weeks.
